Scores of fledgling Gosport businesses are set to benefit from expert help as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week from 14-20 November.
This year’s event will be the third time Gosport Borough Council has supported the international initiative and its presence in the town is set to be bigger than ever with five events taking place.
Aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners can learn the dos and don’ts of being self-employed and growing their business; discover the basics of bookkeeping; get advice from professional experts ranging from lawyers to marketing; and expand their contacts at networking events.
New for this year is the Gosport Enterprise Fair, which will see keynote speakers offering insights into starting and running a business, plus details of the advice and support available locally.
Businesses involved in the marine sector will be able to benefit from information on specific grants available to them, while similar advice will be on hand for members of the armed-forces community looking to start a business.
In addition a number of business support organisations will be exhibiting at the fair to promote their services and there will be networking opportunities for attendees too.
The enterprise fair is being hosted by Caroline Dinenage MP with support from the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership, X-Forces and British Marine, who are all newcomers to Gosport’s Global Entrepreneurship Week offering, along with Hampshire Library Service.
And the high calibre of new partners in the event is testament to the hard work put in by the council along with established supporters including Basepoint Gosport, and Enterprise First.
Councillor Stephen Philpott, Gosport Council’s Economic Development Board Chairman said: “As a council we do a lot of work to support businesses and we want new companies to join us at Global Entrepreneurship Week as the first step in our commitment to helping them succeed.
“We couldn’t run these events without the support of our partners. I’m very grateful to all of the new supporters who have joined us, in particular as an Armed Forces Covenant Town it is great to be working with X Forces, and British Marine’s involvement acknowledges the important part Gosport plays in the Solent’s maritime industry.
“Equally I’d like to thank the ongoing support of Basepoint Gosport, Enterprise First and the local professional services who have helped us make a difference to numerous entrepreneurs and small businesses in recent years.”
