Have your say on Gosport’s 10-year economic blueprint

Gosport residents and businesses are being invited to give their views on a plan to boost the borough’s economy.

The plan, drafted by the council, sets out how the area can increase jobs and skills and make the most of its strengths over the next decade.

When finalised, the plan – called the Gosport Economic Development Strategy 2021-2031 – will provide the framework for future growth and diversification of the local economy.

The draft strategy proposes action on themes including:

  • boosting job numbers and diversity
  • strengthening the marine, maritime and defence industries
  • making the most of employment opportunities on former MoD land
  • increasing the availability of commercial property
  • revitalising Gosport’s town centre
  • making the most of tourism and the waterfront
  • developing skills
  • dealing with demographic changes

Cllr Stephen Philpott, Chairman of the council’s Economic Development Board, said: “This is a very important strategy, designed to make our borough a more prosperous place, where we make the most of our resources and the talents of our residents, and where local people can find fulfilling jobs.

“We’ve had expert advice on pulling this plan together and now we’re inviting everyone in the borough to take a look at it and tell us what they think, to help ensure we meet as many local needs as possible.”

To have a say on the plan, go here.  After reading the relevant documents, you can complete an online survey.

Versions of the documents and the survey are also available in standard/large print, on tape, in braille, or in other languages, by calling 023 9258 4242.

The deadline for completing the survey is 12 noon on Monday 2 November.
