Growth Industries
Gosport Borough Council in its “Gosport: An Opportunity 2011-2026 – business growth and community regeneration” has the following vision:
“Our ambition is that by 2026, Gosport’s local economy will be thriving and diverse with increased investment. There will be a good choice of jobs on the peninsula and people will have the opportunity to work close to home. The economy will build on its strengths in the aerospace and marine sectors whilst maximising its high-tech manufacturing base. Business start-ups will have increased and released MoD land will have provided opportunities to maximise business development and growth. The potential for growth in tourism and health and care will have been realised.”
The council and its partners will realise this vision by:
1. Delivering opportunities to proactively encourage growth in priority sectors
- Marine, aerospace and advanced manufacturing
- Tourism and leisure
- Health and care
2. Taking action to improve accessibility, skills and quality of life to support business growth
3. Promoting the integrated and complementary development of strategic sites
The priority sectors have been identified from an evidence base that includes locational advantages; long established employment strengths and key employers; renowned facilities and infrastructure; and opportunities for future growth. In addition there are over 200 hectares of strategic development land in Gosport that can come forward for development and the key sites have the potential to accommodate more than 10,000 jobs.
These priority sectors are also reflected at a regional level and as a result significant investment is being made in supporting related businesses and infrastructure and facilities via the Solent Local Economic Partnership. This includes investment targeted at Gosport, such as the Solent Enterprise Zone at Daedalus and its associated financial support for businesses locating there, as well as region-wide grant support for start-up and growing businesses.
