Gosport SME is a key supplier for £51m tidal energy project

Monday 15th August 2016

Gosport based A C Marine & Composites is delighted to announce that it will be supplying tidal turbine blades to Atlantis Resources. Following an extensive and rigorous selection process, involving nineteen of Europe’s leading composites manufacturers, Atlantis Resources selected A C Marine & Composites to manufacture their blades and assist with manufacturing advice during the design phase.

The blades, currently under construction, are destined for Atlantis Resources’ flagship AR1500 1.5MW tidal turbine, scheduled for deployment at the MeyGen site in Pentland Firth in Autumn 2016. This site itself has environmental consent for 86MW of tidal energy devices, and a planned capacity of up to 398MW by the early 2020s.

Atlantis Resources specialise in the generation of tidal power, in particular the supply of tidal power generation, fixation and subsea power export equipment. Over the past decade, Atlantis Resources has developed three families of turbines for application in open-ocean, near shore shallow water and run-of-river environments. In 2014, Atlantis Resources teamed up with Lockheed Martin Corporation to complete the design of their largest tidal turbine, the AR1500.

AC Marine & Composites was founded in 2010 by Alex Newton and offers innovative and bespoke solutions to unique manufacturing challenges. Orginally focused on the marine sector, including building Olympic Gold medal winning keelboats, it now also works extensively in the renewable energy industry on projects ranging from offshore windmill components to composite tidal buoys.  Alex and the ACM&C team draw on knowledge and expertise amassed from working on high profile sailing campaigns such as the America’s Cup and the Volvo Ocean Race, plus being part of numerous F1 teams.  ACM&C are currently based in a 22,000 sq ft unit in Gosport, have invested in some of the latest technology and are continuing their long standing collaborations with renowned structural engineers, composite and boat design experts to ensure that it offers the highest quality to its customers.
